University Students ONLY!

We are pleased to announce that AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals will host a tour of their manufacturing and packaging facility in Newark, Delaware. This tour is exclusively for current engineering students who wish to explore pharmaceuticals or biopharmaceuticals as a career path.

Registration for this tour is limited to 30 students due to space considerations in the processing and packaging areas. Once registration is full, students will be wait-listed. As this is an active manufacturing facility, for security reasons, all visitors must register in advance. Tour participants are requested to arrive by 9:45 as the tour will begin promptly at 10 AM.

Students from the University of Delaware, Widener University, Rowan University, Villanova University, Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania are invited to attend. After the tour, students can remain on campus for lunch to network with students from other universities. Lunch will not be provided but can be purchased for a nominal fee.

AstraZeneca’s U.S. Supply Site, located in Newark, Delaware, opened in 1971 and currently employs approximately 225 people. The commitment to modernization and expansion at this facility has been ongoing since its inception as the site recently completed a $100 million expansion. The tour will involve both pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging facilities, as well as warehousing and distribution. This 145-acre, 650,000 sq. ft. facility houses some of the most advanced pharmaceutical production and technical support in the nation.   

Products formulated and packaged at this location include cardiovascular, oncology, respiratory, gastrointestinal, anesthetics, and neuroscience treatments. The supply facility also serves as a major distribution center, shipping 56 million units of product each year to customers primarily on the East Coast. The most well-known products produced here currently are SEROQUEL® (quetiapine fumarate) and ARIMIDEX® (anastrozole). SEROQUEL is a treatment for bipolar disease and major depressive disorder, while ARIMIDEX is used as a treatment for breast cancer.
