Young Engineer of the Year of the Delaware Valley – Engineers Club of Philadelphia

The Young Engineer of the Year Award annually recognizes an outstanding engineer 35 years of age or under who has demonstrated leadership and made a recognized contribution to the engineering profession, as well as contribution and participation in charitable, civic, and technical affairs.

2016 – Daniel Sujo

Daniel Sujo was fortunate to have encouragement from his parents, both accountants, from an early age to study STEM subjects. With Spanish as his native language, Dan combined his love of science with his love of languages by studying English full-time for a year in an immersion program in Brighton, England.

Dan obtained his BS in Chemical Engineering at the Western Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESO) in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2005, followed by a Master’s degree from Rowan University in 2007.  He held positions at two other firms prior to joining Inolex, Inc. in 2012.  At Inolex, a cosmetic ingredient and specialty lubricants manufacturer, he has been deploying new strategies by updating the facility and chemical equipment, instrumentation and control schemes, along with management systems for quality, environmental and safety compliance.  In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor at Rowan.

Dan is passionate about developing our next generation of engineers.  In 2013, he started an internship and co-op program at Inolex to give young engineers plant experience.  The program was named by Drexel as the 2015 Co-op Employer of the Year. At the K-12 level, he has focused on attracting more women and minorities to the engineering field, developing and presenting workshops to showcase job opportunities.  He is Immediate Past Chair of AIChE-DVS, Chair of the AIChE-VLS, and is an active member of IfS and SHPE.  The Section recognized him with its 2014 Young Engineer of the Year Award and AIChE as 2014 Shining Star.  And he was just named the 2016 Young Engineer of the Year of the Delaware Valley by the Engineers’ Club.

In his spare time, he likes to hang out with his wife Jennifer and two children, Carmen and Diego.
