Abstract:
This lecture will educate the audience on what is feasible with non-metallic additive manufacturing technologies to produce real-world parts with high performance polymers. End-use case studies will also be provided for SLS and FDM® technologies to illustrate what types of functional parts are already being used in the field.

Non-metallic additive manufacturing technology has advanced beyond prototyping to the point of printing production parts. Join us to learn about the technologies available for high temperature polymers, including selective laser sintering (SLS) and fused filament fabrication/fused deposition modeling (FFF/FDM®). Material solutions, advantages, and limitations of each technology will be provided.

End-user examples will provide insight into how non-metallic additive manufacturing is already being utilized for aerospace and defense applications. Sample parts will also be presented to attendees to understand how SLS and FDM® technologies differ.

Biography:
Krysten has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Tech and her B.S. in Chemical Engineering/M.S. in Materials Science Engineering from Drexel University. Her background is in polymers science and application development. In 2019, she started her career at Arkema in Corporate Research as a Rotational Scientist working across seven different business units on a variety of exploratory research topics. Since 2022, she’s worked as a Business Development Scientist in High Performance Polymers on 3D-printing applications for Kepstan® PEKK and Rilsan® polyamide-11.
