Abstract
Various topics that often cause confusion or difficulties in the design of pressure relief systems will be discussed. There are many Jurisdictional Laws and Recognized and Generally Accepted Good Engineering Practices (ASME, API, NFPA, etc.) that influence the design of pressure relief systems. The attendees will be provided an overview of the Federal and State Laws and the RAGAGEPs that significantly influence relief system design and how these documents interface. Recent changes to ASME pressure relief requirements will be reviewed and clarified such as Overpressure Protection by System Design.
Biography

He has been involved with relief devices 39 years including 22 years as the DuPont’s pressure relief technology steward and he holds the same role with The Chemours Company since recently retiring from DuPont. During this time he has taught 96 Pressure Relief System Design Seminars to over 1800 participants.
Since the 1980’s he has been active with the American Petroleum Institute, National Board, and American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is currently a member of the API Subcommittee on Pressure Relieving Devices and National Board Subcommittee on Pressure Relief Devices. His ASME memberships` include the Technical Oversight Management Committee, BPV Section VIII, US Technical Advisory Committee to ISO/TC 185, and the Subcommittee on Safety Valve Requirements which he currently Chairs, and he was recently elected Chair of the new BPV Section XIII Committee on Overpressure Protection. His contributions to the technology were recognized in 2012 with his election to an ASME Fellow.
