Abstract:
Our speaker will use a root cause analysis to look at some issues we face in our careers and in our society and why they happen. In understanding why ethical lapses occur, we can learn to identify the precursor events and decide how to respond in the best way.
Biography:
Deborah Grubbe owns and manages a private consulting company, and has served in executive positions with DuPont and with BP in London. She is a former President of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, has been a member of the NASA Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel, and consulted in safety culture with the Columbia Shuttle Accident Investigation Board. Deborah currently serves on the Engineering Advisory Council at Rowan University and on the Chemical Engineering Advisory Board at Drexel University. She is a member and former chair of the National Academy of Construction’s Safety Committee, and is an Emeritus Member of the Center for Chemical Process Safety. Deborah obtained a BS in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and attended the University of Cambridge, England, on a Winston Churchill Fellowship. She is a registered Professional Engineer in Delaware, a chartered engineer in the United Kingdom, and is a Fellow of both the American and British Chemical Engineering Societies. In 2002 she was named the Engineer of the Year in Delaware. In 2018 she was honored as the Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year, and is a 2023 electee to the National Academy of Engineering.
