Wastewater Treatment Plant Tour
of the Delaware County Regional Water Quality Control Authority (DELCORA)
Western Regional Treatment Plant (WRTP)
On Wed., May 11th, please join us for a tour and dinner meeting, co-hosted by the Air & Waste Management Association (Delaware Valley Chapter) and AIChE-DVS.
Don’t miss this exclusive, behind-the-scenes opportunity to see where chemical and environmental engineering intersect. DELCORA’s Western Regional Treatment Plant (WRTP) is currently rated to treat 50 million gallons per day (MGD) of wastewater before it enters the Delaware River. In addition to receiving influent from many municipalities’ sewer collection systems, the WRTP receives septic, sludge, grease, and industrial wastewater trucked from throughout the region. Approximately a third of the plant’s flow is from Sun Oil’s Marcus Hook Refinery and Kimberly-Clark’s Chester Mill.
The WRTP has benefited from many recent upgrades and features the extensive use of automation, Geographical Information System (GIS), and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technologies. It uses an activated sludge process including 2 aerated grit chambers, 8 primary clarifiers, 4 – 2.5 MG aeration tanks, 5 secondary clarifiers, and chlorine disinfection. Solids handling is accomplished via 4 DAF thickeners, 3 belt filter presses, and 2 multiple hearth incinerators.
Broaden your understanding of environmental protection and treatment processes… join us on May 11th!
