The Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year (EOY) is nominated by the engineering and technical societies of the Delaware Valley* and elected by representatives of those societies and past Engineers of the Year. It is a great honor for our section to have the following chemical engineer being proclaimed as Engineer of the Year.
2018 -Deborah L. Grubb, PE, CENG, NAC
Delaware Valley Engineer of the Year
Deborah Grubbe was the former Vice President of Group Safety at BP, and held corporate director roles in safety, operations and engineering at DuPont. Now running a private, global consulting firm, Deborah was a member of the NASA Aerospace Safety Advisory Panel for 9 years, and consulted in safety culture with the Columbia Shuttle Accident Investigation Board.
She currently works around the world helping corporations address their occupational safety, operational and process safety issues. She is an Emeritus Member of the Center for Chemical Process Safety, a former Board Member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. As a member of the National Academy of Construction, she leads its safety committee. With AIChE, she is currently the Chair of the Licensure and Professional Development Committee, and also leads the AIChE Center for Ethical Practice.
Deborah obtained a BS in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University and attended the University of Cambridge on a Winston Churchill Fellowship. She is a registered PE in Delaware, a chartered engineer in the UK, and is a Fellow of both the AIChE and the IChemE. She was named Engineer of the Year in Delaware in 2002, and in 2010 was the first woman to receive an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering from Purdue University for being a leader in safety in the process industries and for her work in supporting faculty diversity at the University.
2014 -Suzette Schultz
Suzette Schultz has been an AIChE member for over 30 years and during the past 8 years has served in various positions as Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary of the Delaware Valley Section. She is currently a member of the DVS Board.
Sue earned BS degrees in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry from the Pennsylvania State University. She devoted her entire career to the pharmaceutical industry, spending 10 years at Bristol-Myers Squibb and 22 years at AstraZeneca. Sue has experience with process development, scale-up, and validation and has focused her work on pharmaceuticals for cancer and mental illness. She has launched several products for AstraZeneca and is currently a global Senior Project Manager.
Sue is the immediate past chair of Girls Inc of Delaware and is a member of the Penn State Arch Society. Sue lives in Thornton, PA and has a grown daughter. When she isn’t working, Sue enjoys traveling, mostly to Europe and the Caribbean with her family.
2013 – Charles Clerecuzio, PE
Charles Clerecuzio, P.E., CPIP has been a member of AIChE for 23 years serving as Vice Chair, Chair and Past Chair of the DVS. He is currently a member of the DVS Board.
Chuck earned a BA in Zoology and MS in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering both from Rutgers University and an MBA in Finance and Operations Management from the Stern School at NYU. He is currently completing his Ph.D. in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering at Rutgers with research focused on biofuels and bio-based products. He has spent his 26 year career in process engineering, project management and senior management roles at consulting and operating companies in the pharmaceutical, biotech and renewables / biofuels industries, He is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Pharmaceutical Industry Professional. He was the 2012 Chemical Engineer of the Year and past President of the Delaware Valley Chapter of ISPE.
Chuck, his wife Molly and their son Joseph live in Woolwich, NJ. Molly is a foreign language teacher, and Joseph is in kindergarten and wants to be an engineer.
2011 – Douglas W. Kriebel, PE
Doug Kriebel, PE is on the AIChE-DVS Board of Directors, and was newsletter editor for over 20 years. He chaired many events including the CEO/Executive Lecture Series.
Doug has a BS ChE from Michigan Technological University and is a registered PE. Doug is a Principal at Kriebel Engineered Equipment, Ltd. which he founded in 1989, and later merged with Anchor Sales in 2005. He is a Manufacturer’s Representative and Distributor of Chemical Process Equipment, providing solutions to the Chemical Process Industries (CPI), the Hydrocarbon Processing Industries (HPI), the Power Generation Industries and General Industry in the Delaware Valley for 26 years. His prior work experience includes: PECO; Schutte and Koerting Company and Ingersoll Rand Corporation.
Doug has over 41 years of industrial experience with technical expertise in pump design, application, and hydraulic systems; heat and mass transfer; industrial water treatment; and air pollution control systems. He routinely delivers technical training courses in his areas of expertise to Industrial clients, Engineering companies, national trade shows, professional societies, and Universities. He has published several papers on Centrifugal Pump design & Pump Systems. Doug’s Professional activities include: Membership in AIChE-DVS; ISPE; and the Chemical Consultants Network. He is married and has a daughter and granddaughter. Other passions include sailing and fly fishing.
